AutoCAD comes with lot of different options and utilities are one of them. It is a quick access facility regarding measuring, selecting etc. It is a part of ribbon.

To select it go to Ribbon which is in Home tab > Utilities

What does Utilities option use for in AutoCAD?

Let me tell you what this option do? Basically it consists of six functions as explained below:-

1. MEASURE

Unlike dimension (DLI enter), it don’t fix the measuring quantity on sheet. It only gives the measuring data as required. It further consists of different parts:-

  • Distance
  • Radius
  • Angle
  • Area
  • Volume

Follow this image for clear idea.

Measure

2. ID POINT

It is used to find out coordinates of a point i.e. (X and Y). Just select this and specify the point on drawing and you get the coordinates.

ID Point

3. POINT STYLE

It is used to change the style of points for instance if we want to change the points’ style after using the multiple points options from draw tools then this option can be used. Check the given below image for reference.

Point Style

4. QUICK CALCULATOR

Very useful for tough calculations and consists of options like scientific, units conversion, and variables. Check the below given image for quick overview.

Quick Calculator

5. QUICK SELECT

Many times we have vast drawing with multiple things and we are required to select one specific thing in drawing but that thing is present in different parts of drawing and selecting all of them individually is a kind of wastage of time. So, to get out of this problem, we use quick select option as shown in the below given points.

1 Step: Q + enter. This command appears a box.

2 Step: In box, we have Apply to (default@entire drawing), Object type, Properties (of object type), Opreator (of properties), value (input) and at last press OK.

Quick Select

6. SELECT ALL

This option is used to select entire drawing.

COMMANDS SHOTCUT’S

  • Measure – MEASUREGEOM
  • Id point – ID
  • Point style – PTYPE
  • Quick calculator – QUICKCALC
  • Quick select – QSELECT
  • Select all – AI_SELALL

Utilities option is a temporary action. It doesn’t fix on sheet after applying for further reference. It is for the immediate requirement that occurs at the specific time.

All the output data appears just above the command box.

This blog has just given a glimpse of Utilities which are one of the options in AutoCAD. If you are interested in mastering all of the options present inside this CAD software then you must become a part of CAD Training Institute.
